Productivity Tip - Purpose of the Day

I have long struggled with getting things done, or atleast feeling like I'm getting enough done. It feels like there isn't enough time per day to get things done, but every time I tried to prove it by adding up all the mandatory things I needed to do, I was still left with a good handful of hours where I could do whatever I want.

A system that I have found to work for me is seting up a purpose of every day. This is importantly not "How can I justify my existence today?", but "What purpose does this day have to better me/my life?". It should not be some routine thing more often than weekly, so in my case the bi-weekly practices with the local fire brigade is the purpose of that day, but not doing the dishes.

This system has helped me get around to doing my hobbies and generally things I've put of. It helps me put in perspective that there is nothing outside of the routine I should do today, so I can (or should) put an hour or two into my hobbies. Another example is that I actually got around to buying new shoes, since that was the purpose of that day, and I didn't need to feel like I had to do anything else after that.

I'm no psycologist however, and these are not hard rules. It's up to you what constitutes a purpose of the day, perhaps you need to just do the dishes, perhaps you only have a daily purpose on weekdays. I don't like hard rules, so use this however you see fit, but the way I explained it is the way that worked for me, and I hope it works for you!
